- Our MissionThe California Oncology Research Institute (CORI) is committed to curing cancer through educating communities, ensuring access to early detection screenings, and fostering innovative research and treatments. We care about establishing relationships within Los Angeles’ underserved neighborhoods to provide information about several types of cancers. CORI believes in treating patients as individuals with the highest level of care.
“Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.”
― Lin-Manuel Miranda, from Hamilton
- Our Story
What makes CORI unique is our willingness to collaborate with any community organization or scientist in the world who shares our vision that collaboration leads to new discoveries and cures.
Founded in 2008, the California Oncology Research Institute recognized the need to help the underserved population through education and CORI-sponsored cancer prevention and early detection programs. In 2011, CORI launched a groundbreaking community outreach program called “Cancer: Prevention, Detection, and Intervention” and built a partnership with inner-city churches and community organizations to provide in-depth cancer workshops throughout the greater Los Angeles area. In 2012, CORI began offering free breast examinations and mammogram screenings for uninsured and underinsured women in addition to the workshops. To date, we have reached over one thousand low-income families.
The doctors and scientists of CORI are both globally recognized for innovative cancer research. They have special expertise in skin, gastrointestinal, prostate, breast and gynecologic cancers. CORI sponsored research has been recognized for their work by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), as well as by a number of distinguished medical journals and scholarly publications.
CORI has received commendations by both the City of Los Angeles, the City of Inglewood, and is the recipient of the Cancer Support Community “Spirit of Community Award.”
Looking to the future, CORI plans to continue to support cutting-edge cancer research, as well as training, education and outreach programs. Subscribe to CORI News
