Skin Cancer

skin cancer is defined as a malignant growth on the skin and there is not only a single cause of skin cancer, but in fact, there are several. The most common type of skin cancers are basal cell cancer, squamous cell cancer and melanoma and as such, skin cancer can be detected while it is still in the early phases. Unlike the various other types of cancers, which originate within organs of the body, skin cancer is treatable and due to this fact, it is very seldom considered to be life-threatening; however, it is must be remembered that skin cancer must be detected and treated early in order to prevent the spread of the cancerous cells. The California Oncology Research Institute, or Corigroup, is an institution which has developed various treatments for cancers by making use of the very latest research techniques and by providing as much information on the types of cancer which exist. Corigroup is of the belief all cancer, not only skin cancer, can beaten. The most common type of skin cancer is the basal cell carcinomas, or BCC, and this type of skin cancer is common on areas which are often exposed to the sun, especially the face. This type of skin cancer can be treated successfully, either with surgery or with radiation treatments.

Since there is various type of skin cancers, there are a variety of different symptoms for each of the skin cancers, and symptoms for skin cancer may include skin which does not heal well, skin that is prone to ulcers, discoloration of the skin and change in the shape, size and color of moles. This type of skin cancer is known as melanoma cancer and is usually found on the surface of the skin; however, cases of melanoma have been reported in the eyes. Melanoma cancer often occurs late in life, but there have been instances where younger patients have been diagnosed with this type of skin cancer. Once the type of skin cancer has been determined, doctors will then go on to determine the best possible treatment for the cancer and the type of treatment will be dependent upon the location of the cancer, the age of the patient and if the skin cancer is reoccurring.

In their bid to online users with as much information about skin cancer as possible, Corigroup is more than aware that there are various steps which can be taken to prevent skin cancer and to reduce the risk of skin cancer, and these include limiting exposure to UV radiation, especially for those who are fair, burn easily and those who have sensitive skin, like young children. Wearing protective clothing, such as hats and long sleeves while outdoors can also reduce the risk of skin cancer, and a strong factor sun block must be worn when exposed to UV rays. Like all cancers, prevention is better than cure and in order to reduce the risk of skin cancer, covering up exposed areas and avoiding midday sun will go a low way in preventing skin cancer from developing.
